Lesion-specific Dual Laser Treatment

Moles are skin changes that occur due to the excessive proliferation of melanin pigment cells in the epidermis or dermis.

Although they may appear to be simple pigmented spots, the treatment approach can vary depending on their actual location and depth.

Erbium YAG laser can be used for precise ablation of the skin surface. This can contribute to carefully removing superficial moles located close to the epidermis while minimizing stress on surrounding tissues.

This approach can minimize scar formation and enhance cosmetic satisfaction after treatment, making it particularly considered for mole management on the face. Subsequently, the process of delicately cauterizing the base of the mole with heat using a CO2 laser can help treat melanin cells that may remain deep in the skin, reducing the likelihood of the mole reappearing. This is significant in preventing cases where moles appear to be removed but recur because their roots remain.

Finishing treatment with a CO2 laser is particularly considered in the following cases:

- When the mole is slightly raised or feels thick above the skin when touched

- If there is a history of the mole recurring in the same area

- When it is judged to be a nevus located in the deep dermis, such as a blue mole or a grayish-brown mole

Flat warts are viral skin lesions caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. They tend to spread within the epidermis and can be observed as thin, widely spread brown or skin-colored small lesions with the naked eye. They are prone to occur when immunity is lowered and can spread to other areas through self-contact, so appropriate early management is considered important.

Erbium YAG laser can be used to uniformly ablate the epidermal layer, making it effective for widely spread flat warts.

neatly clearing them up in one session. This aims to evenly refine the lesion area while reducing damage to surrounding skin. However, due to the nature of viral lesions, there is a possibility of recurrence if only the visible parts are removed. In such cases, the finishing process of applying subtle thermal stimulation to the periphery of the lesion using a CO2 laser can be clinically considered to further treat virus-infected cells that may remain in the epidermis and its surroundings, thereby lowering the possibility of recurrence.

CO2 laser finishing is particularly carefully considered in the following cases:

- When the lesion's borders are unclear or feel flat and spread out when touched, or for individuals whose immunity is weakened due to stress, lack of sleep, etc.

- If there is a history of multiple recurrences

- When the lesion is located in areas frequently contacted in daily life, such as hands or face, or areas where the virus is prone to spread

Milia are small, white, cystic lesions formed when keratin (a type of skin protein) becomes trapped beneath the skin. They are commonly observed around the eyes, on the cheeks, and forehead, and unlike sebaceous cysts, they are cosmetic skin concerns with little association with infection or inflammation.

Erbium YAG laser can be carefully used to remove milia. By delicately ablating the skin surface, it can remove the thin epidermal layer of the milia, opening a pathway for the trapped keratin to be safely discharged. A light cauterization finish with a CO2 laser after removal can help reduce the possibility of remaining keratinocytes re-proliferating and prevent milia from recurring in the same area. However, precise intensity control is crucial, as excessive thermal damage to the skin can lead to hyperpigmentation.

CO2 laser finishing can be particularly helpful in the following cases:

- When milia repeatedly occur in the same location

- If there is a history of lesions reappearing during the recovery process after previous treatment

- When expecting a more uniform skin condition during the recovery process after removing multiple milia

Syringomas are benign skin lesions caused by the excessive proliferation of sweat gland (sudoriferous gland) tissue in the dermal layer of the skin. They typically appear as small, round, palpable bumps, often multiple, mainly under the eyes, on the cheeks, and forehead. They can be relatively common in women in their 20s and 30s or due to genetic factors.

Erbium YAG laser can delicately treat the epidermis, making it suitable for managing syringomas in sensitive areas like around the eyes. This treatment aims to refine the skin surface while removing the upper part of the sweat gland lesion, and it can be cosmetically considered for its potential to reduce the risk of scars or hyperpigmentation after the procedure. Subsequently, by applying thermal stimulation using a CO2 laser,

the finishing process of inducing subtle thermal damage to the deeper parts of the lesion can regulate the activity of dermal sweat gland tissue,

and can be clinically considered to reduce the likelihood of syringomas recurring in the same area. However, due to the inherent depth of these lesions, multiple treatment sessions may be required.

In the following situations, applying CO2 laser finishing together may be more carefully considered:

- When multiple syringomas are located relatively deep, such as under the eyes or on the cheeks

- If there is a history of lesions reappearing after multiple previous laser treatments

- When focusing more on reducing the possibility of recurrence with a single treatment

Skin tags are benign lesions caused by the excessive proliferation of fibrous tissue and blood vessels in the dermal layer of the skin. They commonly occur in areas where skin folds, such as the neck, armpits, under the breasts, and eyelids, often appearing as small, raised, skin-colored growths. They are usually painless but can become irritated by friction. Typically, CO2 laser can be used to remove skin tags, making it easy to excise tissue and achieve hemostasis, thereby allowing for relatively efficient removal of multiple lesions. However, for small and thin skin tags, delicately ablating the lesion first with an Erbium YAG laser, followed by finishing cauterization of the lesion's base with a CO2 laser, can help treat the root tissue of the skin tag and contribute to reducing the likelihood of recurrence in that area. The heat applied during this process can affect fibrous cells and microvessels within the tissue, helping to regulate regrowth.

Applying CO2 laser finishing together may be carefully considered in the following cases:

- When skin tags appear in areas with frequent friction, such as the neck or armpits

- If there is a history of skin tags recurring in an area where they were previously removed

- When the root of the lesion is deep or wide, and a slight mark may remain on the skin even after removal

Thus, considering the depth and characteristics of skin lesions,

applying two laser treatments together

the 'Dual Laser Technique'

can be considered one of the approaches that adds finesse to the treatment.

After mole removal, how long should DuoDerm (regenerative patch) be applied?

Mole removal procedures involve a process that minimally damages the skin surface, and small wounds may occur during this process.

Therefore, it is important to carefully protect and manage the wound area after the procedure.

In particular, keeping the skin of the treated area moist can aid in recovery and contribute to reducing the likelihood of scarring.

For these reasons, we recommend applying Duoderm, a hydrocolloid dressing.

Duoderm helps new skin grow by maintaining a moist environment around the wound and can reduce the burden of scarring by delaying scab formation.

It is recommended to apply Duoderm immediately after mole removal, change it every 3-5 days, and continue management for at least one week.

A total management period of approximately 10 days is recommended.

If you find it difficult to use Duoderm or experience an allergic reaction, you should frequently apply a regenerating cream or moisturizing gel to prevent dryness. Additionally, be sure to apply sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher diligently and avoid touching the wound area.

Post-mole removal care is a crucial step that goes beyond simple wound protection and affects the outcome of the procedure.

If proper care is not maintained, scars may form, so consistent attention is required even after the procedure.

We provide detailed guidance on post-procedure care methods to help our patients recover quickly and healthily.

Q&A

Q&A

고객님들이 가장 많이 물어보시는 내용을 모았습니다.

How should I care for my skin after mole removal?

QnA

It is recommended to keep the treated area moist by applying a regenerative tape for about 2 weeks. After removing the tape, we advise consistent use of sunscreen to prevent hyperpigmentation and applying a regenerating cream.

If a mole is not completely removed, when can I receive treatment again?

QnA

Depending on the depth and protrusion of the mole, it may be difficult to remove it completely in a single session. In such cases, re-treatment can be considered after a minimum of two months, and typically, 2-3 sessions may be required.

When can I start exercising after mole removal?

QnA

It is not advisable for the treated area to sweat excessively or be irritated. Therefore, it is best to avoid swimming or strenuous exercise for about one week after the procedure.
